A message to our Koda Sail Community
It's hard to believe the extraordinary circumstances we are all facing at the moment. As a small business we are navigating challenges that we've never encountered before and we know it's an unsettling time for everyone.
My love for travel stems back a long way before starting this company back in 2014 when I took the leap to create these tours for the Young Professional community. I would not have believed you if you told me back then that in 5 years Koda Sail would host over 1500 passengers from around the world, and have tours operating in 3 countries. The enjoyment that I have been able to bring to many travellers by sharing my passion of travel is very overwhelming. Yet today, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, all of the hard work, sacrifices and commitments mean that it may come to an end if we don't all stick together and support the tourism industry.
This is not just a moment in Koda Sail's history, or a defining moment of the tourism industry, it's a time for all of us to come together and do right by each other. There may be some travel bans in place now, but they are not forever. All the amazing travel experiences and memories we have gathered while exploring our wonderful world so far are still with us, and will be waiting for all of us after we make it through these interesting times together.
Right now there is nothing of more value than keeping our travel community, and the world we all love to explore, healthy and safe. I want to ask all of us, during this tough time, to remember all of the amazing people who are part of this industry. These fantastic people include our local communities in each destination we visit who will be affected the most, as Summer tourism is what gets them through their Winter's. Without a Summer of tourism, some of these local businesses we use may not be there in 2021. That's a harsh reality of all this.
For those that have travelled with us already, you know the passion that I personally have to support these local families that give you such an amazing experience on our tours all Summer long. These families are our families, these families are your family as they opened up their heart and homes for us. I have been in contact with them personally over the past few weeks and they are sad and afraid that you will not come back and visit them once this is all over. I have no answers for them which hurts me the most.
Travel has the power to help us all become better citizens of the world, and we want you to stick with us to help us continue to share the love of travel to these communities that rely on us heavily. Whether it's next week, in a month or a year, we WILL travel again. Alongside everyone we work with, Koda Sail will do everything in its power to continue our passion and provide life-enriching travel experiences that are so important to us as all.
Postponed, it's my new favourite word, much better than using the word cancelled. This gives us hope that we can rebuild from this and get back to enjoying things we love to do. The amount of planning that goes into a Summer season is extraordinary, with so many moving parts involved.
What people don’t realise is that most of the tour funds are in use before the actual tours operate, on not only wages but endless behind the scenes fees to keep us operating. Please be patient with the situation at hand. I get it, there's uncertainty right now with travel bans being put in place, so you want answers. We have never seen anything like this before, so everyone is dealing with it the best they can. We will continue to keep our community updated with our travel alerts and contact any customers that are directly affected with any schedule changes.
